Project Overview
The senior project, “Building Energy Management and Control,” undertaken by students from the Electronics Department at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT), offers a comprehensive exploration of innovative energy management strategies. The project focuses on sustainable energy solutions through the implementation of state-of-the-art commercial smart automation systems.
Objectives and Scope
Conducted on an existing building at AASTMT, the project aimed to integrate electrical installation requirements with building automation, specifically addressing light current applications. The students designed and implemented various systems, including lighting and HVAC, demonstrating their practical applications through detailed AutoCAD designs and hands-on work.
Key Achievements
The project successfully illustrated the feasibility and benefits of integrating smart automation systems in energy management. By combining wired (KNX) and wireless (Tuya) technologies, the team met specific client needs while contributing to energy efficiency and sustainability.
Practical Implementation
A scaled-down prototype was implemented, incorporating different scenarios, and applied in an actual laboratory within the College of Engineering. This practical application highlighted the real-world benefits and efficiency of smart automation in building energy management.
Conclusion
The “Building Energy Management and Control” project stands as a testament to the students’ ingenuity and dedication, showcasing how smart automation can significantly enhance energy efficiency and sustainability in building management.
